Framing Strength, Discipline, and Achievement: A Shaolin Kickboxing Black Belt GRADING Display

Every framing project tells a story—but some carry a real sense of impact, both literally and symbolically. Recently, we were commissioned to create a bespoke frame for the remains of a Shaolin Kickboxing black belt grading, and it’s a piece that perfectly captures strength, discipline, and personal achievement.

The Brief

Our client came to us with a unique and meaningful collection: broken tiles and a fractured brick, the very materials used—and conquered—during their black belt grading. These weren’t just objects; they were physical proof of years of dedication, training, and perseverance.
Alongside the materials, the client wanted the details of the grading itself incorporated into the design—ensuring the story behind the achievement would always be preserved and clearly presented.

The Challenge

This project required more than just thoughtful design—it demanded careful engineering.
Broken tiles and bricks are not only irregular in shape, but also extremely heavy. Standard framing techniques simply wouldn’t provide the long-term stability needed. The frame had to be deep, robust, and built to securely support the weight of the objects without any risk of movement over time.
At the same time, the visual presentation needed to remain refined and balanced—honouring the significance of the achievement without overwhelming it.

Our Approach

We designed and constructed a deep, structurally reinforced frame, specifically tailored to house the brick and tile fragments safely. Each piece was carefully mounted using conservation-grade methods to ensure it remains securely in place for years to come.

For the accompanying text, we incorporated the grading details directly into the layout, giving context and meaning to the display while maintaining a clean, cohesive aesthetic.

To complete the piece, we used AR70 Artglass, a premium anti-reflective glazing. This choice ensures:
  • Minimal reflection, allowing the contents to be viewed clearly from any angle
  • Exceptional clarity, enhancing the visual impact of the materials
  • UV protection, preventing the printed details from fading over time

The Result

The finished piece is both powerful and personal—a striking display that captures a defining moment in our client’s journey. The raw, broken materials contrast beautifully with the precision of the frame, creating a visual reminder of strength, resilience, and accomplishment.

Why Projects Like This Matter

At its heart, bespoke framing is about more than presentation—it’s about preservation. Whether it’s fine art, memorabilia, or something as unique as a martial arts grading, our role is to protect the story as much as the object itself.

This project is a perfect example of how thoughtful design and expert craftsmanship can transform meaningful items into a lasting legacy piece.

If you have a special achievement or object you’d like to preserve, we’d be delighted to help you bring it to life.
